Switzerland: report 2008
October 2008 : Feeding 200 orphans requires our small organization to produce a considerable amount of money. All those stomachs to feed calls for as much work in Switzerland as in Mali . We do not receive any form of subsidy.
In order to boost the reserves needed to buy milk, millet, rice and medicines we went through our attics and cellars to find unwanted items that could be sold at the Nyon Flea Market. Not everything found a new home but we raised a worthwhile sum of money. Thanks also to Vreni and her barrel organ, we collected one thousand and seventy francs.
Thank you to everyone who donated items, helped run the stall and to the organisers who let us have two stands free of charge.
The Nyon Flea Market takes place every last Sunday of the month in the Rive area.
Next edition due in the spring.
November - December 2008 : A month of intense preparations for the president's visit to Gao from 6 th to 29 th December. This year we have been lucky enough to be able to take lots of material thanks to the Italians. Every year since 2004, they have carried out free cataract operations in Mali on adults and children afflicted by this widespread congenital illness. Their humanitarian mission is called RIDARE LA LUCE.
The journey to Rome was the result of much hard work and dedication by the Geneva president and vice-president. The Vaud president and material flew to Gao in a C-27J Spartan aeroplane.
