Switzerland: report 2005

Our actions in Switzerland

During the first quarter of 2005, we worked to set up the structure of the association, a strenuous task with plenty to do. Committee meetings generally take place once a month.

January 2005: Preparation for the voyage. Sorting and packing children's garments and medicaments to be transported. The weight of luggage is limited and we have to ask the airline for an additional allowance. This is finally granted to usin recognition of the humane mission.

February 2005: Preparation of a solidarity evening in favour of the orphaned children of Gao, in order to introduce the association to our circle of friends, relatives and acquaintances.

This evening, which took place in Prangins, was successful , with approximately 100 people attending. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event and to the artists who performed voluntarily

March 2005: Thanks to generous donors, 20 kg of antibiotics and medicaments were sent to Gao, as well as children's clothes. Thank you to Aline and Julien, who transported these 60 kg of materials. Everything arrived safety and was personally given to Sophie.

April 2005: A "spaghetti" evening, organized by the GYM-DAMES and the BRICOLE of Burtigny in aid of the orphaned children of Gao, made it possible to introduce our association to the village. The proceeds of the meals and tombola raised 2,305 CHF, which enabled us to provide milk and corn flour gruel to hundreds of orphans over approximately two months.

A huge thank you to the people responsible for the organization and the generous donors.

May 2005: A solidarity dinner envisaged for the 20th is postponed to September because Sophie cannot be present.

On 24 May 2005 our association is registered with the Commercial Register.

The creation of the AAG website is in hand. However, it demands a greater investment of time, but we look forward to its forthcoming launch.

June 2005: Six months old , the association now consists of 27 members and 6 sponsors.

During the brunch organized on June 12 in Chiblins by the caterer Mr Paul Mayr, one of our members, very active and devoted to the cause of the orphans, played music on her barrel organ in aid of the children of Gao. It was also the occasion to publicize our humane action Thank you Vreni!

July 2005: Our website is now online. Thank you to Johanne for her wonderful job, which was generously offered.

August 2005: According to Sophie's latest news, the situation in Gao is becoming so critical regarding the supply of milk powder that the AAG launches a call through the media. Unfortunately, this message was ineffective and had no impact. We note with bitterness that no one is interested in the misery in Africa .

However, we live in hope and believe in a better future. Our objective to build a reception centre for orphaned children becomes imperative and motivates our search for funds.
