Suisse: report 2006

April-May 2006: The filming of a video in readiness for a forthcoming display monopolises all our time but the result is worth all the hard work. Thank you to Johanne for making this video.

A fundraising evening takes place on the 19 th May at the arboretum in Aubonne. We take the opportunity to thank the organisers and Jean-Pierre and Philippe for their magnificent interpretation of the songs of Jacques Brel.

A highly successful concert is given by the Jorat Madrigal, directed by André Denys, to raise funds for the orphans. The immense talents of this vocal ensemble and their director coupled with that of the two young flautists, Nathalie Musardo and Pascal, captivate the large audience in the Longeraie Chapel in Morges. Many thanks to all the musicians for their generosity. The funds raised will be used to build our centre in Gao.

June-July 2006 : At the start of June, Mr Aly Alasssane Touré, Mayor of Gao, honours us with a short visit on the occasion of his trip to Thionville in the north of France .

At the same time we receive the good news that the AAG has been fortunate enough to be given a digger-tractor to help with rubbish clearance. A warm thank you to our generous donors.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the Swiss Army who has donated a large quantity of medical supplies, a truck and an ambulance. This kind donation will greatly help the population of Gao and our centre there. Many thanks to all who helped load, transport and unload the supplies, in particular Eric, Micheline, Laurent, Rudi, Nicole Daniel, Johanne, Félicie and Maude.

The task is far from complete as we must now repaint the truck and send everything to Gao.

Anyone wishing to help us financially with this can do so here . Thank you.

August-September 2006: Our project is well under way. Following much research into different transporters, we are on the verge of finalising our plans for a 40' container which will hold all the supplies as well as the vehicles. The container will probably be despatched within the next few weeks although we still need to finalise the details.

We also receive our Canadian partner, who gives us a donation made by the Longueuil Chamber of Commerce. Many thanks to all the members of this organisation.

We are invited by COSOBIGAO (Comité de Soutien à la Bibliothèque de Gao) to take part in a well organised exhibition day on Mali in St-Genis in neighbouring France . This is a good opportunity to show our work to a wider audience.
