Mali: report 2013

March 2013 :  All the administrative buildings in Gao have been completely destroyed in the attempt to eradicate the terrorists who sought refuge there.  Not a single one is left standing with the exception of our centre.  We are much luckier than the other NGOs who have lost everything.  The local population are living with a constant fear in their stomachs.

April 2013 :  Finding supplies of foodstuffs remains difficult as the border with Algeria is still closed.  The cost of transport is exhorbitant and the cost of fuel has a direct impact on the cost of food.  Thanks to her good contacts, Sophie has been able to arrange the transport of our boxes of milk by Binké bus although the basic cost of the milk remains very high.

May 2013 :  Good news ! Little Seytou, who was born without an anus, has finally had an operation at the Gabriel Touré Hospital.  This first treatment went well and the girl was able to return to her family shortly afterwards.

Sophie’s book ‘Le fil de lumière’ has been published and was launched  at the ‘Maison des Aînés’ by the author and publisher Amadou Seydou Traoré, known as Amadou Djicoroni.  A press conference was held with representatives from the press, television, ministers, NGOs, ambassadors and several local dignitaries.
